Manufacture

Manufacture (plan feature): define Bill Of Material at `/definitions/bom`, run Manufacture Orders at `/definitions/manufacture-order` with Start Manufacturing, and review Material Consumption and Production Cost reports. Finished products can show average manufacture cost on the Item Product Cost tab.

BOM

Bill Of Material (BOM)

A BOM defines how one finished product is built — which raw materials and quantities are required — so Manufacture Orders and Start Manufacturing know exactly what to consume.

How to define a BOM

  1. 1Open Bill Of Material at `/definitions/bom`
  2. 2Select the finish product (stock type Finished Product on Item)
  3. 3Add raw material lines with required quantity per unit of finish product
  4. 4Save the BOM so Manufacture Orders can pick this recipe

What the BOM stores

  • Finish product — the item you will manufacture (Finished Product stock type)
  • Raw materials — component items (Raw Material stock type) from your catalogue
  • Quantity per material — how much of each raw item is needed for the recipe
  • Links to Item masters so prices and stock types stay consistent
  • Used later by Start Manufacturing to propose planned material consumption

One BOM per finished product recipe — keep quantities accurate so Planned vs Actual variance reports stay useful.

Item stock types to use

F

Finished Product

The output SKU that receives manufactured quantity and Product Cost after production.

R

Raw Material

Input SKUs consumed when you Start Manufacturing against this BOM.

Q

Quantities

Set BOM qty relative to one finish unit so order qty scales materials correctly.

S

Stock ready

Ensure raw balances exist via Item / Stock before confirming materials on Start.

Tip

Create Finished Product and Raw Material items under Item before building the BOM. Enable a manufacture plan on the finished item so the Product Cost tab can show average cost after runs.

Frequently asked

Can I use any item as a raw material?+

Where is the BOM screen?+

Web path: `/definitions/bom`. Manufacture Order is at `/definitions/manufacture-order`.
